Sixty third session of UNESCAP Meeting Started in Almaty-Kazakhstan
The 63rd session of UNESCAP (United Nations Economic
and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific) officially opened by the
Foreign Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Executive
Secretary of UNESCAP, on the morning of Thursday 17th at senior official level and will continue till 23rd of May 2007 at the City of Almaty.
The delegation of Afghanistan led by H.E Dr. Jalil
Shams, Minister of Economy and accompanied by representative of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Commerce and Industries,
attending this years meeting.
The meeting of UNESCAP is divided in three committees to break
the overall agenda and to further discuss it in specialized committees.
For the Committee No I (UNESCAP REFORM) Mr. Nasir Ahmad Andisha,
Director of Multilateral Relations and IFI’s, of Afghan Foreign
Ministry has unanimously been appointed as the chairman of the
committee.
The committee will hand over its final report and recommendation to the ministerial meeting on 21st May.
Prior to the UNESCAP meeting, on 15-16th May the
Special Body of Least Developed (LDC) and Landlocked Developing
Countries (LLDC) met separately, which was chaired by H.E Dr. Shams.
Energy Security and Cooperation and its role on Sustainable development
were one of the main themes of this meeting. The delegation of
Afghanistan stressed on the need of inter-country and inter-regional
cooperation on energy sector. The issue of international migration was
also discussed extensively. Delegation of Afghanistan pronounced its
concern over the safety and human treatment of the migrants at the
receiving countries and asked for great attention for the case of LDC’s
in the regard.
The delegation also met senior officials of Kazak government and
the representative of private sector interested to invest in various
sectors in Afghanistan.
