President Karzai Meets with Turkish President

 

President Hamid Karzai met Monday morning with Abdullah Gul, President of Turkey in Cheraghan Palace in Istanbul.
Issues of discussion in the meeting included efforts for security and stability in Afghanistan and the region, Turkey’s continued cooperation and continued commitment to Afghanistan in the areas of education, health and training of the Afghan security forces.
President Abdullah Gul congratulated President Karzai on his re-election and hoped the historic relations between the two countries can be deepened and strengthened even further.
President Gul added that peace and stability in Afghanistan is the priority for the world and stressed that Turkey as a Muslim country and a friend of Afghanistan would make every effort in helping Afghanistan reach its goal of stability. Pointing at the recent terrorist attacks in Kabul, President Gul praised the bravery and the performance by the security forces for a quick elimination of terrorists and said the attacks, if happened in other countries, would have been disastrous with many casualties.
Reaffirming his country’s continued assistance, President Gul said Turkish people love the people of Afghanistan by heart and as a Muslim nation is ready to do everything they can for their Afghan brothers and sisters.
He further said his country is setting up a military-run Provincial Reconstruction Team in the Northern Province of Jauzjan to help in the reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan.
President Karzai thanked Turkey for all its efforts in the areas of education, health as well as in the training of National Army and Police forces. He said Turkey played an important role in encouraging private investment in Afghanistan by investing in development sectors.
The President further thanked Turkey as a Muslim country for hosting the trilateral summits and termed them important and effective in improving relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan and has opened the way for greater security and economic interaction. The President said that Turkey as a modern example can do more in improving the status of education in Afghanistan and can help modernize Afghan military system.
