عزیزان هموطن به خانه خود تان، سفارت جمهوری اسلامی افغانستان خوش آمدید.
And distinguished guests Ladies and Gentlemen: Good evening
We are gathered here today to commemorate the 95th anniversary of Afghanistan's regaining Independence over its foreign affairs. The hero of Day is Shah Amanullah Khan, a young and reformist king who secured the independence and spearheaded the most significant social and political reforms, in the history of Afghanistan. Thus, the year1919 was not just an era of independence, but also marked the beginning of the process of modernization in Afghanistan. Like many other nations, indeed Afghanistan’s journey from independence to modernization and to democracy had its challenges and missed opportunities.
Afghanistan’s Independence Day marks a significant point in the Afghan history; a moment that reflects the strength, sacrifices and determination of our people. Throughout Afghanistan’s history our people have made sacrifices for freedom and independence not only for their country but for humanity as a whole. We stood at the front line of fight against communism whose defeat in Afghanistan marked its demise.
And today once again we Afghans are at the fore front of a war against terrorism and violent extremism, a threat which, has engulfed a vast region of the middle and South Asia, which knows no border and in an age of total digital connectivity, it is spreading with an astonishing speed. Terrorism and violent extremism are menace which fighting it, today more than any other time, needs our joint effort and cooperation.
In the case of Afghanistan’s struggle against Taliban and Al Qaeda an international consensus and cooperation certainly exist and Australia has played a and keeps playing significant role, including it is leadership role in the United Nations Security Council. On behalf of the Afghan ppl n out government I would like thank the government and people of Australia for their support and sacrifices endured in our joined struggle in the past 13 years.
Excelleinces, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Afghanistan –Australia bilateral relations a mature and solid partnership based on common interest and mutual respect. In the past 10 months we had a number of high level bilateral visits, including Prime Minister Toney Abbott, Leader of Opposition Mr. Bill Shorten, and Defense Minister David Johnston (who was in Kabul last week) and other high level officials. Our Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Finance, Mining and National Defense also visited Australia in this period.
This year we opened our first Australia Afghanistan Business Council in Melbourne which host a business matchmaking event in June. The Hidden Treasures from the National Museum of Kabul, is in a tour of Australia, currently in Perth (a number of my ambassador colleagues have seen it) this befouls exhibition of Bactrian golden artifacts showcases some of the most remarkable archaeological finds in all of Central Asia and provides a glimpse into the world of the ancient Silk Road which passed through today’s Afghanistan.
And on the world sport, and a sport very dear to Australians, Cricket. Our national cricket team has qualified for Cricket WB which is going to be hosted in early 2015 in AUST-NZ. Manuka oval will host our national teams first much in mid-February and hopefully the first World cup victory for Afghanistan. The team is visiting for a training and friendly matches tour later this month.
Excellenices.
So while the residence diplomatic relationship is only 11 years old, relationship is indeed taller and stronger than its age.
But let me remind you that, notwithstanding our young diplomatic relationship, Afghans are no strangers in Australia. Our connection dates back to more than 150 years… when the first Afghans along with their camels came to Australia to help develop the communication networks and the Australian outback. The Afghan cameleers were instrumental and played a crucial role in the success of some of the Australia's most ambitious infrastructure projects at the time, such as the overland Telegraph and the rail link between Port Augusta and Alice Springs, came to be known as the ‘Afghan Express’, and later ‘The Ghan’. Today the Ghan's emblem is an Afghan on a camel in recognition of their efforts in opening up the inhospitable interior to the rest of Australia.
Today among us we have Dr. Palma Rijasky the author of the book In the Track of Camelman and Mr. Fahim Hashimi an Afghan Australian film maker who made an excellent documentary about the life of the Afghan Cameleers. I am sure they will be happy to tell you more about the historical tie between our nations.
Honorable guests,
Once again I would like to take this opportunity to thank all for listening so patiently for what I believe was a terribly long speech. And thanks to all my Afghan friends who helped us in organizing this event, especial thanks goes to Ustand Sarshar our legendary musician in Australia and his team, to Mr. Fazl Ferozkohi for bringing beautiful Afghan carpets, our young entrepreneurs and caterers in making today’s event possible. And of course above all, I thank God for accepting our long prayers for a better weather this evening.
And I call upon, Hon. Bruce Scott MP and acting Speaker to deliver his brief remarks.
Thank you very much
