LAND MINES - A LOVE STORY launched in Australia

A new documentary film, LAND MINES - A LOVE STORY, directed by one of Australia's most renowned documentary filmmakers, Dennis O'Rourke, was launched on 9 May 2005 at Electric Shadows Cinema in Canberra City.

The film was shot on location in Afghanistan, and explores the aftermath of decades of war. It gives a powerful insight into the human cost of war, and makes a moving plea for tolerance and understanding. It is being highly praised by critics and is being shown to great acclaim at international film festivals.

Dennis O'Rourke was present at the special screening of the Film. His Excellency Mr. Mahmoud Saikal, the Afghan Ambassador to Australia and New Zealand made comments on the screening.

Ambassador Saikal said: "Dennis's documentary highlights the full
dimensions of landmine problems. Not only the physical suffering, but the social, psychological, economic, cultural and many other
consequences of the use of landmines are covered in his film. Dennis illustrates that human love, affection, simplicity, hope and
determination are the most priceless factors in the recovery of a war torn country. Something our reconstruction strategists need to reflect on and capitalize on a little bit more, in chalking out future plans".

The film opened for an extended season starting on 12 May.
