Canberra – The Government and the People of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan express their deep regret at the death of two brave Australian Military Engineers from the Brisbane based 2nd Combat Engineering Regiment by an improvised explosive device detonated on 07 June 2010 in Afghanistan when they were conducting a patrol.
These two Military Engineers died fighting for the just and noble cause of freedom – not only freedom for the region, but for the world. The continuing support of Afghanistan by its allies is valued most highly by the people of Afghanistan and its government, as attempts to reconstruct the country after the ravages of war and to establish peace and security in the region endure in the face of relentless attacks by the Taliban. The government of Afghanistan thanks the Australian people once more, and prays for the successful achievement of its aims - a peaceful, democratic Afghanistan, a stable, secure region and a free world. The People of Afghanistan pray for the families of the two Military Engineers who gave their lives to the cause of freedom.
