| November 20, 2012 - President Hamid Karzai held a meeting this noon with Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff Gen. Ashfaq Kayani to discuss a number of issues of mutual interest.
In the meeting where discussions were frank, cordial and in depth, both sides talked about Afghanistan peace process, the necessary future steps, as well as ways to further enhance the bilateral relations.
President Karzai thanked Pakistan for its warm reception and hospitality to Head of the High Peace Council and his accompanying delegation during their recent visit to Pakistan and praised Pakistan’s decision to release, to the success of the peace process, a number of Taliban prisoners.
Central to discussions was how to ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan and Pakistan, where Pakistan Chief of Army Staff said that the peace process needed to be further intensified as they were looking forward to the second visit, soon, of the Afghan Peace Council to Pakistan.
Stressing that peace and stability in Afghanistan was in the interest of Pakistan, Gen. Kayani affirmed his country’s support of every effort that leads to peace and security in Afghanistan.
In presence to the meeting was also Afghanistan Defense Minister Bismillah Khan, to whom Gen. Kayani extended a formal invitation to visit Pakistan, which Minister Khan accepted with thanks. |
