Ambassador Amanullah Jayhoon was born in Takhar province

of Afghanistan in 1963. After completing his secondary education,

he studied in  the Islamic University of Islamabad in Pakistan.

He received his BA (Hons) in Islamic Studies with an emphasis

on comparative religions and Arabic studies, in 1987. He

completed his postgraduate studies in Political Science and International Relations at the University of Since and Technology in Peshawar, Pakistan.

In 1989 he left for the United States of America and earned his MA (Ed) in Education Administration, with an emphasis in political science, from the University of Nebraska in 1991.

He joined government service as chief of staff of Afghanistan’s Presidential office in 1992. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan in 1993 and worked as first secretary at the Embassy of Afghanistan in Ankara, Turkey from 1993-1995.

He worked as First Secretary and Charge d’affairs at the Embassy of Afghanistan in Vienna, Austria in 1996. The following year he was posted to Berlin, Germany for two years as Vice Consul General at the Consulate General of Afghanistan. He continued working in Berlin for three more years as Minister Counselor, Head of Mission, at the Embassy of Afghanistan in Berlin. He served as Head of Mission at the Embassy of Afghanistan in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 2002 to 2005. For the last two years he worked as Head of 1st Political Division (Asia Pacific) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Afghanistan.

Ambassador Jayhoon is appointed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to the Commonwealth of Australia and presented his credentials to His Excellency Major General Philip Michael Jeffery, AC, CVO, MC (Retd), Governor General of Australia on 31 May 2007.  Ambassador Jayhoon is married and has four children.
